Who is ‘Sports Climbing’ for?
This course is for people who want to get prepared for a ‘hot rock’ trip. Perhaps you have started leading inside and want to head off to the sunshine bolt clipping and you do not want to learn about trad climbing. If so this is the course for you - in Snowdonia the lower sports grade limit is Fr 5+ so you need to be able to lead at lead Fr6a indoors to benefit from a course in Snowdonia. However, a trip south to Portland can be arranged to make the most of the lower grade routes and get you ready for climbing in Europe. This course is best as 2 or more days.
What will be covered?
The Sports Climber course is run at a maximum ratio of 1 instructor : 2 participants. This ensures that we can cover the aspects of improving your sport climbing that are most important to you. We can cover many aspects of sports climbing including
Personal equipment for your sports cragging trips
Efficient bolt clipping
Progression from single to multi pitch
Use of the clip stick
Retreating - abseiling
Advanced rope work - rescue techniques
Red pointing techniques
What if the weather is bad?
We will endeavour to spend as much time as possible out on the crags, however if the weather is bad we can often cover many of the skills in the climbing wall.
