Advanced Scrambling Course

Scrambling on Crib y Ddysgl, Snowdonia

Who is ‘Advanced Scrambling’ for?

This course is for people who are looking to venture on to the classic steeper ridge scrambles of Britain’s mountains. If you are thinking about doing the Cuillin ridge or exploring grade II and III scrambles then this is the course for you. The best base for this course is Snowdonia with lots of quick access to Scrambles, however if you fancy scrambling in Scotland’s west coast please enquire.

This course is best run over 2 or more days.

What will be covered?

Advanced Scrambling can run up to a maximum ratio of 1 instructor : 2 participants. You will cover the following:

Mountain Weather

Kit choice - boots, rucksack, emergency kit, map etc

Route finding & choice

Movement over steeper terrain in ascent and descent

Navigation

Rope work - taking coils, choosing and placing ‘runners’, building belays.

If you are wishing to become an independent roped scrambler then we will also spend a day looking at lead climbing - this will help you build up the skills you need to make good judgements about the rock you are climbing on and how you are attaching yourself and your partner to it.

What previous clients thought ...

“Thanks  for a great weekend, we had a wicked time with Paul as you can see from the  pictures, Eddie can be a hard man to please sometimes but he had a great time. Please thank Paul very much also for giving me back the bug to get into climbing I never thought we would be climbing a VDiff route on Sunday, and an abseil into the cloud coming up the rock face what a finish to a great climb” Julian & Eddie - Telford

“Many thanks for last week's Advanced Scrambling! Thank you for your trust in us and for taking us up some great routes. I'm sorting my rack out now for some future scrambling!”

Martin Bray - Bath

“I still can’t believe what we did, I very much appreciate your encouragement and expertise I felt very safe with you and hope that we will be able to do it again soon”

Oliver Neville - London

Other Questions

What if the weather is bad?

The weather has to be pretty bad to stop a scrambling course from running, however if high winds are forecast we have a great selection of low level venues to keep you busy.
